The Matariki 2020 application uses augmented reality (AR) to interact with stars in the sky and place virtual fires.

 

The Matariki 2020 application uses the camera on your smartphone or tablet to digitally impose customised AR interactions over the camera lense view. While using the Matariki 2020 app, we collect information based on user interactions with our digital content to improve what content we develop for you to increase engagement.

 

Information we collect

While using the Matariki 2020  app, we collect information on the experiences you interact with and how long you have interacted for. Activity information that is collected:

 

• What experience has been activated

• How many times an experience is activated

• Buttons and links that have been clicked on

• Information about your device operating system

• What country you access the app from

 

Access to Device Camera

The Matariki 2020 app requires access to your device’s camera to detect horizontal planes and surfaces in augmented reality.

 

How we use the information we collect

The information collected while using the Matariki 2020 app is used to give feedback on customised content and how the content is interacted with, to optimise the content we bring you. We will only share information with third parties that we collaborate with on particular experiences - to assess how the AR experience is performing. We do not collect personal identifying information or share any information with third parties that does not explicitly relate to a collaboration or content hosted by a third party.

Updates/amendments

This Privacy Policy may be updated as necessary as the Matariki 2020 app features are updated and additional content is added. Updates to this Privacy Policy will be advised when the app is updated or through in app notifications.

Terms of Use

Use of the Matariki 2020 app is subject to the below terms of service.

Matariki 2020 app and Augmented Reality Services

​

General

1. To use the Matariki 2020 app the User (“you”) agrees to the terms set out in this agreement.

2. You agree that the features and content of the Matariki 2020 app may change without prior notice - including patch updates, bug fixes, revised user interface and interactable buttons and content. You agree to updates install automatically to your smart device.

3. You agree that augmented reality content hosted in the Matariki 2020 app, may be temporarily or permanently unavailable, without prior notice to you. You may also experience limited access to the Matariki 2020 app features during periods of scheduled maintenance and updates.

 

Usage

1. You agree that you are responsible for maintaining all mobile/smart devices and telecommunications services required for installation and operation of the Matariki 2020 app. You agree that you are liable for any charges or costs (including data charges) while using the Matariki 2020 app and services.

2. Use of the Matariki 2020 app requires access to your smart device camera - to track spatial planes for augmented reality. You agree that the Matariki 2020 app has access to your device camera and photo gallery to use the save screenshot feature in the Matariki 2020 app.

 

Intellectual Property and Licensing

1. The Matariki 2020 application is developed for Wellington City Council and maintained by Maggle Creative. All trademarks, logos, graphics, animations, assets and models are unregistered or registered trademarks of Wellington City Council or have licensing permission by third party organisations.

2. Using the Matariki 2020 app provides you with a single user, non-assignable, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to view and interact with the with the augmented reality content provided by Matariki 2020, subject to adhering to the following conditions:

   • The Matariki 2020 app is accessed using your own mobile device or with explicit permission to use another device

   • Any content, graphics, AR experience or Matariki 2020 branding must not be reproduced or included in any work or publication without prior written consent.

   • Content must not be altered or modified in any way or used in any other medium deriving from the Matariki 2020 AR content or interactions.

   • Content must not be distributed, sold or leased to any third party.  

   • The user must not reverse engineer, disassemble or attempt to extract any content in the Matariki 2020 app.

 

Disclaimers

Matariki 2020 takes due care in providing augmented reality content and services through the Matariki 2020 app. As part of the development of the Matariki 2020 app services the following apply:

1. • We cannot guarantee that all services and content in the Matariki 2020 app will be uninterrupted or error free.

   • You are responsible for taking precautions to protect yourself, your smart devices and computer systems from viruses and other harmful and destructive applications.

 

Privacy

To improve the Matariki 2020 app functionality and augmented reality experiences. We collect information about how you use the app.

 

Please read our Privacy Policy above for clarification on the information we collect and how it is used.  

 

User Warranties

As part of your agreement to these terms of service, you agree that:

1. • You will only use the Matariki 2020 app in accordance with the terms of service set out in this agreement and all applicable laws and regulations.

   • You will not infringe on the intellectual property rights or any other rights of an individual or third party set out in this agreement.  

 

Indemnity and Liability

1. You agree that you shall indemnify and hold harmless the Wellington City Council and the Matariki 2020 app together with our employees, officers, contractors and third party licensors from and against any and all losses, liabilities, claims, actions, proceedings, damages, costs and expenses (including court costs and legal fees) whether direct, indirect or consequential and including any economic loss or other loss of profits.

2. You agree to indemnify the Wellington City Council and the Matariki 2020 app services for any loss, damage, cost or expense that may be incurred as a result of your use of the Matariki 2020 app services, including any breach of these terms and conditions.  

 

Notice for amendments to this agreement

This “Terms of Use” agreement is updated to reflect new features, systems and content on this page. Notices to advise of any updates or changes to this agreement are posted with in-app notifications.
